There over on the mountain there has to be something.
There over on the mountain it has to be.
So many people would do anything to climb it’s steep slopes and reach the top.

One climber searches for a guide or a leader.
A guide who knows the way very well.
Someone who touches him deep in his soul.
In his soul where a fire has been burning for a long time

He follows this leader blindly through the steepest parts of the climb.
He only wants to keep going up.
His only wish is to get to the top of the mountain.
He becomes zealous and determined.

Up the mountain, up the mountain, up the mountain.
At any price, up the mountain.
Up the mountain, up the mountain, up the mountain.

On the other side of the mountain his brother is also on the way up.
On the other side of the mountain the way is also steep.
This brother takes on many burdens to travel this rocky road.
He’s giving it all he’s got, he’s out of breath.

He condemns his brother on the other side.
Because he believes his brother is living the wrong way.
And he knows this for a long time.
He is certain that his brother will never reach the top.

He thinks his leader knows the better way.
And his leader knows how it really is.
Although his leader is driving his flock on in a very fanatical way.
Making his followers very enraged.

    Up the mountain .....

Everyone is welcome there on the mountain
High over the valley of the earth.
Whether you’ve traveled an easy road or an agonizing one
Doesn’t matter there on the top of the mountain.

Since forever this mountain exists.
Since forever it has been our goal.
From everywhere people are trying to reach the top.
It is God’s never-ending game.

We all give God a name.
We all believe that we have the mountain to ourselves.
We think the mountain is standing there just for us.
God, Manitou, Allah and Zeus.

I am somehow also on the way up the mountain.
Without a leader, I just give myself a little more time.
On the way to this giant I feel like a dwarf.
And I know that I still have a long way to go.

    Up the mountain .....
